Abstract

The results of numerical simulations using a Moving-Preisach Stoner-Wohlfarth vector hysteresis model are reported. Using this model the variation in the intrinsic hysteresis properties of a two layer Hi8 Metal Evaporated tape, assuming non-interacting layers, as a function of the angle between the magnetic field and the easy-axis direction were studied. The simulations reproduce the key features observed experimentally if the two layers in the ME tape have different magnetic properties. Various permutations and combinations of layer properties were considered. The best result is found when the coercivity and saturation magnetization are increased in one layer and decreased in the second.
