Abstract
Birk has presented a case for combining the breadth of a dynamic psychotherapy approach with behavior therapy techniques. Although this author is sympathetic to the spirit of Birk's paper, the form of the integration, as well as the basic assumptions underlying it, is questioned. An attempt is made to show how the spirit of Birk's paper has already been integrated within the existing behavior therapy techniques and that the latter strategy is to be preferred.
