Abstract

Professional reports written by therapists about their clients are enduring and influential long after the counseling has formally ended. Case reports are much more than just required paperwork and are strengthened significantly if they include the client's voice rather than simply a unilaterally constructed representation of a client's clinical experiences with us (written by us). We believe that the responsibility of clearly recording a client's therapy process can be accomplished jointly by clients and therapists. When the client's voice is included, the writing and editing processes themselves become therapeutic as well. We provide examples of collaborative case report writing and the participants' reactions to this attitudinal and behavioral shift.
