Abstract

The use of the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies is increasing rapidly. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), which represent the networks of devices with sensors and actuators, are the most commonly used technology in the vertical domain of the IoT systems. WSN need to transmit the measured data from the environment to the cloud for monitoring, processing or storage purposes. In this study, we developed a new framework that enables the previously built Software-Defined Networking (SDN) based WSN structure to interact with the cloud environment. This new structure uses the Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol to be able to deliver the measured sensor data to its destination through the internet. SDN architecture provides real-time monitoring and management of the network from a central node and is capable of changing the network structure dynamically according to application requirements. In the study, the interaction of the SDN controller with the cloud was also provided and new modules were developed to allow the network to be monitored over the internet.
