Abstract

The growing number of renewable energy sources in the world has resulted in a more dispersed power generation energy sector. The replacement of centralized power generation by decentralized renewable energy generation is the principal goal of smart grids everywhere. Energy storage is a very important aspect of the smart grid. Renewable energy resources are best when used to generate smaller amounts of energy as well as being located in many areas. The idea is to have more distributed power generation points. With all the renewable energy sources available, the existing conventional grid is being transformed. Due to all the different technologies and power levels of each renewable energy source the current power grid cannot keep up. Enabling nationwide use of electric vehicles (EV) is also an enormous step in improving efficiency. The combination of both renewable energy sources and EVs can significantly reduce the amount of greenhouse gases being emitted.
