Abstract
The stability of a plane vortex sheet between two uniform streams is examined with respect to small disturbances when the two media are relaxing diatomic gases (such as oxygen or nitrogen). For the equilibrium and frozen cases, the eigenvalue equation is identical in form with that of the conventional case, and the stability is decreased due to the relaxation. For the nonequilibrium case, the eigenvalue equation is complex and depends on the wavenumber of the disturbances; the vortex sheet is shown to be always unstable.
