Abstract

This study examines, from the standpoint of cognitive discourse, the insinuation in a particular American talk show. It attempts to demonstrate how ignorance can impact interpersonal communication. An eclectic model of Johnson's Conceptual Metaphor (1980) and Sharfian's Cultural Cognition (2011) is used to facilitate this. The information is gathered from the You Tube videos of the American talk show called Good Morning America. The process of indirect communication known as insinuation is considered to be carried out in accordance with certain techniques for a variety of goals, one of which is to prevent social embarrassment.
