Abstract

In this paper, recent developments of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and its sub components like smart meter, Neighborhood Area Network (NAN), Meter Data Management and Repository (MDM/R) etc. in smart grid technology has been discussed. In today's smart grid system, the two-way communication of power and information is very essential. In a smart grid system, power flows from generating station to consumer's end in a top to bottom approach whereas information flows from smart meters installed at customer's end to grid in a bottom to top approach. The flow of information in any smart grid is supported by advanced metering infrastructure. Further, a new practice has been proposed for MDM/R storage and repository services which will help the consumers to better manage their electricity usage activities and regulate electricity cost.
