Abstract

Background: Small bowel neuroendocrine tumors (SBNETs) are difficult to diagnose due to the presence of non-specific symptoms and the absence of radiological features on computed tomography scans. Case Report: We hereby describe 36-year-old female whose mesenteric node masked the underlying diagnosis of an ileal NET. Specific investigations such as positron emission tomography gallium DOTATATE scan and chromogranin-A blood test have high sensitivity and specificity to diagnose neuroendocrine tumors (NET). Tissue diagnosis also plays a pivotal role to aid diagnosis. Conclusion: This report describes a case where the diagnosis of an ileal NET, with local mesenteric node involvement, was initially misdirected and worked up as a hematological presentation.
