Abstract

In this policy submission to Inquiry into Victorian Anti-Vilification Laws, researchers of the Allens Hub for Technology, Law and Innovation discuss the effectiveness of the Racial and Religious Tolerance Act 2001 Act; interaction between the Act and other state and Commonwealth legislation; the role of the state in relation to anti-vilification laws and the importance of retaining and expanding the scope of such laws; and the legal issues that may affect law enforcement approaches to detecting and prosecuting online offending.
