Abstract

AbstractA brief account is given on layered halide perovskitesA2BX4, and their relationships with the 3DABX3perovskites. The scientific history of the family of inorganic-organic hybrid structures of (CnH2n+1NH3)2MCl4, withM= Mn, Cd, Cu is described. The special case of PAMC, (C3H7NH3)2MnCl4, is shortly discussed, with special emphasis on the importance of non-bonded interlock layers interwoven with the topological layered perovskite structure and occurring accidentally on geometrical grounds in the propyl-compounds. These layers are believed to be the main reason for the uniqueness of these compounds in the series (CnH2n+1NH3)2MCl4, withn= 1–10 (at least). Modern achievements of investigations into other inorganic-organic hybrid perovskite-type layer structures are also addressed to.
