Abstract
A qualitative exploratory-descriptive research, whose objective was to understand the experience of women during the inhibition of preterm labor at the obstetric center. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with six postpartum mothers at a maternity room in Florianopolis, SC, from August to October 2008. They were reviewed in accordance with the proposal of Collective Subject's Discourse. The Central Ideas and Discourses include the following aspects: side effects of drug uterus-inhibitors, orientation received from professionals, experienced feelings, emotional support, care received and distress reported. The side effects of drugs uterus-inhibitor influenced on feelings of ambivalence between the need to continue inhibiting and the desire of childbirth. However, after the discontinuation of clinical decision of inhibition, feelings of relief emerged. Assistance to women during the inhibition of preterm labor might value the emotional aspects as well as the distress resulting from the treatment.

RESUMO O presente estudo é uma pesquisa qualitativa exploratório-descritiva, cujo objetivo foi compreender a vivência de mulheres durante a inibição de trabalho de parto pré-termo no centro obstétrico. Inibição do trabalho de parto pré-termo complicações, gera ansiedade para a gestante e transtornos para toda a família que compartilha desse cotidiano(8), uma vez que, de maneira geral, o nascimento do novo ser é esperado com saúde, equilíbrio e alegria. A população-alvo do estudo foram as mulheres que realizaram inibição de TPP no CO durante o tempo previsto para coleta de dados, sendo excluídas aquelas que tiveram óbito fetal, feto natimorto e recém-nascido pré-termo com malformação. Os dados de identificação e os antecedentes obstétricos foram coletados no prontuário, e os referentes à vivência sobre a inibição do TPP, foram obtidos por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas guiadas por um roteiro com perguntas que abordavam aspectos emocionais e assistenciais. Todos os procedimentos seguiram a Resolução 196/96 do Conselho Nacional de Saúde, que normatiza e regulamenta as pesquisas envolvendo seres humanos
