Abstract

The inheritance of resistance to wheat leaf rust incited by Puccinia recondita Rob. ex Desm. f. sp. tritici, was investigated in ‘Leeds’ durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) All F1 plants of reciprocal crosses between Leeds and the rust‐susceptible line ‘D6618’ were susceptible to culture 70‐1 (race 1) P. recondita. The segregation ratio of approximately 15 susceptible plants: 1 resistant plant in the F2 generation suggests that resistance is conditioned by two recessive genes, and this was confirmed when 281 F3 families satisfactorily fit a 2‐factor 7:4:4:1 ratio.
