Abstract

Dark mutant cereal leaf beetles, Oulema melanopus (L.) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), have been isolated from the field with a frequency of 0.47%, and their frequency appears to be increasing when compared with that of normal-colored beetles. The mutant beetles have dark orange to reddish-brown legs and thorax. In normal-colored beetles, these structures are a more translucent reddish-orange. The mutant trait was found to be governed by a single autosomal recessive allele.
