Abstract

Information explosion and enhancement of different sources and media of information have made Information Seeking Behaviour Studies more complex. The present study aims at an assessment of the Information Seeking Behaviour of Academic Lawyers of universities of Haryana. The scope of the study was confined to the students and faculty of the law of the four universities of Haryana. The findings of the study were based on the data collected through 735 questionnaires filled by the respondents of the universities. It was found that maximum percentage of respondents (53%) of Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra sought information frequently for research work followed by 43.9% respondents of Bhagat Phool Singh Women University, Sonepat, (41.9%) respondents of Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak and (39.2%) respondents of Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa. The study found that (83%) of respondents of KUK used books frequently followed by (72.1%) of respondents of BPSWU, (71.5%) of respondents of CDLU and (59.5%) of respondents of MDU. It was also found from the study that (71.3%) of respondents of CDLU used the Internet whereas, (58%) of respondents of BPSWU used e-journals frequently which were more than (49.1%) respondents of KUK. Academic lawyers were more dependents on the department libraries for identifying e-resources and legal databases. The furthermore slow speed of the Internet was the major problem faced by academic Lawyers.
