Abstract
Promising mechanisms for ensuring that findings from medical treatment effectiveness programs and clinical practice and decision making are included in the new 79-page Information Dissemination to Health Care Practitioners and Policymakers: Annotated Bibliography , published by the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR). The continuing medical education community, in particular, should welcome the abstracts on research pertinent to the acceptance, inculcation, and use of clinical and other health-related information disseminated to practitioners and policymakers. Descriptions of selected conceptual and empirical research on diffusion of information and innovations and technology are also presented. The clinical practice guidelines the AHCPR has been charged with developing are another important source of medical education. The guidelines, in areas such as acute pain management, pressure ulcers in adults, and urinary incontinence, consist of a compact document and an abbreviated quick reference for health care providers and a patient's guide pamphlet.
