Abstract
Valuable orbits around our planet are increasingly populated by man–made space debris that endanger operational spacecraft and manned space missions. Several institutions have already initiated efforts to mitigate this problem. This article outlines such efforts and indicates how debris mitigation practices are becoming an international custom. The author also maintains that this development will result in the creation of a standard of care with respect to space debris mitigation, which will also have an effect on the application of the Space Liability Convention.
