Abstract

Background: Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARTI) stand as infectious disease that cause the highestmortality globally(1). In 2010, 150.523 Indonesian pilgrims diagnosed as ARTI, 53.027 diagnosed as influenzaand 10.572 diagnosed as Pneumonia(2). The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and Indonesian Ministryof Health has recommend Influenza Vaccination for Pilgrimage(3). This study aim to find the correlationbetween influenza vaccination and the frequency of ARTI of West Java’s Pilgrims 2018.Method: A Cross-sectional study design of Siskohatkes data; an integrated Indonesian Hajj Applicationthat computerize all health assesment of pilgrims in Hajj Mass Gathering. Total sample is 374 West Java’sPilgrims in 2018 with complete data recorded. Influenza vaccinationstatus, ARTI’s events and covariatesare extracted and combined from Impor pages, Vaccination section, Health Assesment Section 1,2,3 andMedical Record . This study applied multivariate cox regression analysis andthe correlation effect expressedby prevalence oddratio (POR) with p value 0.05 and 95% confident interval (CI).Result: The prevalence of ARTI in West Java’s Pilgrim-Indonesia at Hajj Mass Gathering 2018 is 71.85%.Pilgrims that take influenza vaccination is 34.32%. Cox regression test results of the correlation is POR0.99 (0.61 -1.61) with p-value 0.98, which means the Pilgrims with influenza vaccination is at 0.99 risk ofARTI events compare to those without influenza vaccination after being controlled by Age, Education, andDiabetes. Conclusion: This study revealed that influenza vaccination doesn’t have protective effect to frequency ofARTI in West Java’s Pilgrims 2018. There was effect modification by age (p-value 0,03<0,05). Implementingvaccination in high risk indications pilgrims e.g elderly and Diabetes may prevent higher frequency ofARTI.Appropriate informationabout the role of vaccination the risks of ARTI andit’s alternative preventionto Pilgrims is needed.
