Abstract

Saturation magnetostriction behaviour of two nanocrystalline Finemet-type alloys is reported. The effective saturation magnetostriction results in these nanocrystalline alloys are interpreted in terms of two volumetric phase contributions (nanocrystalline grains and the residual amorphous matrix), being necessary to consider an extra contribution arising from the surface effects in the boundary of the crystalline grains exhibiting a large surface to volume ratio.
