Abstract

In spiral copper-plated striated coated-conductor cables (SCSC cables) carrying ac currents, differences in self-inductance in each layer and mutual inductances between layers cause non-uniform current distribution among layers. This may increase the ac losses of the SCSC cables. We have been developing the electromagnetic field analysis model to evaluate ac losses in SCSC cables carrying ac currents under ac magnetic fields. In the analysis model, a circuit model and a large-scale electromagnetic field analysis model were combined. In the circuit model, each layer of SCSC cables is modeled as a circuit consisting of resistances and inductances. We investigated the effect of non-uniform current distribution among layers on ac losses for a SCSC cable carrying ac currents under ac magnetic fields.
