Abstract

We examine the effect of the modified Kerr-type saturable nonlinearity (MSN) in a negative refractive material with oppositely directed coupler. Our motivation is to investigate the modulational instability of oppositely directed coupler in the presence of self-steepening effect. By using phase amplitude ansatz method, we discuss in detail, how the MSN strongly affects the MI gain in a negative index channel with the presence of self-steepening effect. Observed MI spectrum shows a new regime for soliton generation in a negative refractive index material with oppositely directed coupler for normal dispersion regime with help of MSN and self steepening effects.
