Abstract

In looking to enhance the piezoelectric properties of Bi4Ti3O12 (BIT), the role of MgO was considered. Composition with MgO from 10% mol to 54% mol were realised using the conventional mixed oxide and carbonate process. An increasing amount of MgO induces a change in the cell parameters of Bi4Ti3O12 without affecting its basic three-perovskite-layers structure. An interesting relation was found between the resistivity and the c-parameter of the cell, and it was proved that magnesium increases the resistivity of BIT of one order of magnitude.
