Abstract

The preparation and properties of ferromagnetic La0.8Sr0.2MnO3, Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3 and their composites with formula (1 − x) La0.8Sr0.2MnO3 (LSMO) + x Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3 (BNT) (x = 0.125 and 0.25) are hereby reported. The X-ray diffraction data analysis and thereafter the Rietveld refinement of the XRD data revealed rhombohedral structure (R3c) for both the La0.8Sr0.2MnO3 and Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3. Raman scattering spectroscopy technique further verified the lattice structure. Microstructural studies using a sensitive field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and the verification elemental composition employing energy dispersive analysis of X-ray (EDAX) technique was carried out. The BNT compound and the composites were studied for dielectric behavior where the dielectric constant was found high and the loss value displayed decreasing trend with increasing concentration of the BNT phase in the composites. The pristine LSMO and the composites were probed for dc resistivity using four-probe technique. The LSMO displayed metallic character initially and later showed transition to insulating phase while as the composites exhibited semiconducting behavior.
