Abstract
Crystallization of a eutectic Sn-Pb melt was studied under strongly nonequilibrium and equilibrium conditions with an ac electric field applied to the sample from a rectangular-pulse generator having a frequency of above 150 kHz. Cooling curves and surface micrographs of various sections through the sample volume were obtained. It was shown that the crystallization time decreases and the eutectic grain scale changes under a field.
