Abstract

Abstract Size uniformity of single tracks has a significant influence on the quality of parts in metal additive manufacturing. Herein, the 7075 aluminum alloy single tracks were fabricated by self-developed liquid metal flow rapid cooling additive manufacturing equipment. The forming process of single tracks was observed by a high-speed camera. The effects of process parameters on the size uniformity of the single tracks were analyzed. The influence mechanism of size uniformity of the single tracks was revealed. The results show that the size uniformity of 7075 aluminum alloy single tracks increases with increasing discharge pressure, melt superheat and deposition distance, or decreasing nozzle travelling speed. The variation of the inclination angle of the solid-liquid interface and the distance between solid-liquid interface and liquid flow under different process parameters results in the variety of size uniformity of the single tracks. The work would provide a new technical idea and theoretical basis for investigating the size uniformity of single tracks prepared by additive manufacturing.
