Abstract

At the Cockroft–Walton-type 2×1 MV tandem accelerator in Alma-Ata, a method of obtaining inert gas ion beams by means of injection of neutral particles into a first accelerating tube has been developed. The procedure of injected beam intensity control is described. The neutralization cross section of He+ and Ar+ ions on the various gaseous targets has been estimated. Recently obtained results in comparison with analogous data obtained elsewhere are presented.
