Abstract

The present study investigates the effect of Corporate Social Performance (CSP) on applicant attraction at the organizational level. Collecting data from 284 Korean companies, we found that socially responsible companies attract a large number of applicants than less socially responsible companies. Furthermore, we predicted that industry has an influential effect on applicant attraction by being interacted with CSP. The result from the regression analysis supports the hypothesis. Findings show that the relationship between CSP and applicant attraction is stronger in the manufacturing industry. In particular, Food & Drinking and Medical & Pharmaceutical industrial sectors can benefit from their improved social and environmental performance in attracting more prospective job-seekers. Such results imply that the effect of CSP on applicant attraction is industry-specific. The finding further highlights that CSP is important to companies as means to gain competitive advantages in recruiting.
