Abstract

Abstract A transformation defective mutant ( TY 9) was obtained from the Prague strain of RSV by ultraviolet irradiation. It is a deletion mutant with slightly longer genomic RNA than ordinary td mutants isolated from the same strain by Vogt [ Virology 46 , 939–946 (1971)] . After several passages of cells infected with TY 9, partial expression of some characteristics of the transformed state was observed; these were fusiform shape, increased saturation density and hexose uptake, production of plasminogen activator, and colony-forming ability in soft agar medium.
