Abstract

The development of advanced technology has been led to human demand for positioning-based services and gradually increasing. Indoor positioning and navigation systems are becoming increasingly popular due to the constraints with the Global Positioning System (GPS) into specific areas. However, indoor environments also suffer from several challenges like Non-Line of sight (NLoS). Some solutions have been proposed to mitigate the NLoS impact such as NLoS identification in addition to mathematical derivation. In this paper, the optimum receiving signals system was proposed by deploying five transmitters in Case Study Building (CSB). By using a simple algorithm, such a proposed system aims to distinguish between weak signals who suffer from noise or NLoS impact and the strongest three are selected. Both Time of Arrival (ToA) and Received Signal Strength (RSS) methods were applied to estimate the location of 75 targets. The results show high performance with the proposed system, where, the average error was (0.161m) based on TOA and (0.152m) based on RSS.
