Abstract

The geopolitics of the twenty-first century is expected to be determined in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly starting from the border of South Asia, which is the dominant sea space. This chapter elaborates that in this transforming era, India’s growing geo-economic, industrial, maritime, and military power plays a significant role particularly in collaboration with its strategic partners such as the US, and its regional allies, in the geopolitics of the region. In this geostrategic transformation, the United States’ pivot to the Pacific or a rebalance to the Pacific policy is the bedrock of the emerging geostrategic changes and re-alignments. The chapter suggests that this will provide incentives to India to expand its maritime strategic outreach in the Indian Ocean.
