Abstract

This index of the book The Crowds in the Gospel of Matthew presents a list of reference texts from Hebrew Scriptures, New Testament, Jewish literature, Christian literature and classical literature relevant to the discussion on Matthew's crowds in the Gospel of Matthew. The book reviews Matthew's crowds that represent the people of Israel as distinguished from their leaders. It discusses the identity of the crowds, Jesus' ministry to the crowds, the Jewish people in the gospel, the unfavourable depiction of the crowds and the crowds' transparency. The book contributes a fresh perspective to the perennial problem of Matthew's relationship to the Judaism of his day. It also presents a major contribution to an understanding of the structure of the Matthean narrative and renaissance. Keywords: Gospel of Matthew; Hebrew Scriptures; Israel; Jesus' ministry; Jewish people; Judaism
