Abstract

Optical communication systems have evolved since their deployment to meet the growing demand for high speed communications. However, at high input power, nonlinear fiber effects become more important and their compensation is required to improve the transmission performance. In this paper, we are considering Self Phase Modulation (SPM) and Cross Phase Modulation (XPM) nonlinear effects. A detailed study of SPM and XPM nonlinear effects on optical MIMO system is presented. The main idea behind this work is to analyze the impact of Kerr effect on a MIMO system and to show the theoretical and simulation results due to non linearity using Optiwave's Optisystem. Here; we are comparing Q-Factor, Bit Error Rate BER and eye opening for different third order non-linearities at a bit rate of 10 Gbps.
