Abstract

Aim : To determine the incidence of endophthalmitis in our population following extracapsular cataract extraction over time(2003-2004) and to explore possible contributing factors , and to compare with incidence of endophthalmitis in other countries .Patients and method :8479 patients who were operated on for cataract surgery during the period from January 2003 to December 2004 were reviewed and all cases of endophthalmitis were analyzed ,and possible risk factors identifiedResults : During the study period ,as the technique of extra capsular cataract extraction (ECCE)with or without intraocular lens(IOL) implant whether posterior chamber(PC) intraocular lens or anterior chamber (AC) intraocular lens was performed .
