Abstract

(Can J Anaesth. 2022;69:298–310. doi: 10.1007/s12630-021-02158-0) Sepsis is a leading cause of death and leads to 25% to 40% maternal deaths worldwide. Sepsis-caused maternal morbidity is a concern as well. Despite the prevalence of sepsis deaths in countries around the world, Canada lacks an epidemiological analysis regarding maternal sepsis. The aim of the study was to examine causes of sepsis for women hospitalized during pregnancy in Canada. Incidence, the progression of sepsis, trends, and associated obstetric and medical conditions were evaluated.
