Abstract

The incidence of acute myocardial infarction in the Perth metropolitan area is described and incidence rates for males and females aged 30–69 yr provided. The age specific rates are comparable to those found in other areas where the condition is prevalent. Mortality data confirms the predominance of early death both for those suffering their first attack and for those with recurrences. Mortality rates based on the registration data are compared with national figures provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
