Abstract

Recent experimental AI-enhanced applications focus on putting the user in control of human-computer interface systems. Examples include microsearch engines, which use reasoning techniques such as probabilistic inference, deterministic inference, optimization, estimation, and configuration to fine tune their results, and an Australian intelligent grid system that lets homeowners decide how to optimize their energy use. Researchers are also exploring utilizing user input to help email users separate junk from important communications and investigating more interactive videogame nonplayer characters. Other AI apps in the works include intelligent transportation systems and applying AI methodologies to sports analysis.
