Abstract

High-purity carbon microtube membrane was in situ synthesized in a gas pressure furnace using urea as a precursor in the absence of catalyst. The size of the as-prepared membrane is up to 150 cm 2 composed of highly entangled carbon microtubes with 1.5 μm in outer diameter, 15 nm in wall thickness and several millimeters in length. The unique architecture of this membrane may have potential applications in microelectronics and microdevices area.
