Abstract

Order lamellar porous Ti3SiC2 can be used in heat exchange, gas filtration, carrier materials, lightweight materials due to the advantages of corrosion resistance at high-temperature and the high flux structure. It has been innovatively prepared with freeze casting by inexpensive TiH2, Si and C mixed powders. Variation of structure (viscosity, solid content and freeze rate) of green and sintered samples with process parameters was studied. The porosity ranges from 55% to 76%, and wavelength λ ranges from 9 to 33 μm. And the mechanism of variation has been elaborated. In addition to the structure, to obtain high purity porous Ti3SiC2, in-situ liquid-solid reaction has been applied to avoid the introduction of sintering auxiliaries. The effect of reaction temperature and content of Si, C on purity has been investigated. Finally, high purity (over 99%) directional porous Ti3SiC2 with two-scale lamellar structure has been prepared.
