Abstract

My association with the Henderson family goes back more than 50 years when, in standard five at Christian Brothers College, Boksburg, I sat next to Derek's younger brother, Rex, for a few months before he went, as his elder brother had done before him, on a scholarship to St John's College, Johannesburg. I clearly recollect cycling from my home in Boksburg South to Van Dyk Mine to visit Rex at his home and was most impressed by his remarkable mother who, undoubtedly, was a 'main spring' in the development of her two remarkable sons.
