IN MEMORIAM: STEVEN ZUCKER 1949–2019 Photo courtesy of JHU Mathematics Steven Zucker—Professor of Mathematics at the Johns Hopkins University for nearly 35 years, and director of JHU’s Japan-U.S. Mathematics Institute from 2005–2007—had a profound influence on algebraic geometry via his study of L2cohomology and the variation of Hodge structures, and also by virtue of his famous Zucker conjecture, which he formulated in 1980. In 1993, the American Journal of Mathematics was pleased to welcome Professor Zucker as an associate editor, a position he held until December of 2000, and equally pleased by his contribution of several important papers over the years. ii ...
