Abstract

Ethical, rigorous, and relevant research conduct features prominently in ongoing debates in a range of sub-disciplines in management, but also in other fields of research. These debates focus on a variety of issues, including the erosion of rigor in journal submissions, increased research ethics violations and cases of misconduct, failure to replicate findings, and the decrease in research methods skills and appropriate research methods training. These issues affect both authors and reviewers, as well as the broader management community. An important step to overcoming these issues is to define clearly how to conduct research rigorously. In the current session, the panel members will discuss strategies to improve research execution, reporting standards, and reviewing practices and their relevance for the field of management. We want to engage the audience in an animated discussion about necessary changes and ways forward. We will pay specific attention to discussing solutions that every member of the Academy can implement in everyday practice.
