Abstract

Modern organisations have many communication channels: cell-phone, e-mail, video conferences, face-to-face meeting, etc. The following model was created to help managers to understand and manage many communication channels (media channels) in their organisations. This model fills a gap in the literature prior to 2007 by concentrating on monitoring, controlling and restricting communications. Many reasons for controlling communications in organisations are also outlined and presented. The MCR media model shows great promise as a tool to analyse, control and managing communications in virtual teams, and intercultural virtual teams. Other applications of the MCR media model are also suggested.
