Abstract

This paper is a summary of the Improving Consumer Health Information Technology (IT) Application Development: Lessons from Other Industries, Background Report (available at http://healthit.ahrq.gov/developmentmethodsbackgroundreport). originally published on July 2011. The report was commissioned by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) as a key deliverable for the task order entitled "Understanding Development Methods from Other Industries to Improve the Design of Consumer Health IT" and is an outgrowth of the Building Bridges: Consumer Needs and the Design of Health IT workshop sponsored by AHRQ. The workshop was held at AHRQ's facilities on July 27--28, 2009.
