Abstract
The hyperfine splitting of 23Na I 3 2P 3 2 has been experimentally studied beyond the natural linewidth by the quantum beat method after laser excitation of a fast Na beam. A new value for the quadrupole moment has been derived: Q = (105±2) mbarn.
