Abstract

In February 2020, the United States Multi-Society Task Force (USMSTF) updated their recommendations for follow-up interval after colonoscopy with or without polypectomy. A salient change is increasing the surveillance interval for 1-2 adenomas <10 millimeters (mm) in size from 5-10 years to 7-10 years. Amid the change in these guidelines, there was significant practice variation among gastroenterology (GI) fellows and attendings regarding adherence to the new recommendations for colonoscopy follow-up intervals. In this quality improvement study, we aimed to improve adherence to appropriate follow-up recommendations for patients undergoing screening colonoscopy with 1-2 diminutive adenomas and next colonoscopy interval based on the updated USMSTF guidelines.
