  • Samsul Ar

In Islamic teachings, being moderate will give birth to peace. In other words, moderation in everyday life is very important and very necessary to promote an attitude of tolerance and differences. As in Indonesia, we have various tribes, religions, and languages, and we must be tolerant of every religious teaching and the diversity of tribes there. This study examines the internalization of moderate values in the Tarjuman book by KH. Abdul Hamid bin Isbat at Al-Mujtama’ Islamic Boarding School, Pamekasan. The Tarjuman book contains Islamic values that emphasize religious moderation, aligning with Thomas Lickona’s concept of character education. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation within the pesantren environment. The findings indicate that the internalization of moderate values in the Tarjuman book is implemented through three stages. First, moral knowing where students are provided with an understanding of moderation concepts through book studies. Second, moral feeling which is developed through discussions, spiritual experiences, and the exemplary conduct of kiai in daily life. Third, moral action is manifested in attitudes of tolerance, respect for differences, and the application of moderate values in social interactions. The results of this study affirm that pesantren education plays a strategic role in shaping students’ moderate character. Moreover, the Tarjuman book functions not only as an Islamic reference but also as an instrument for character development, fostering a balanced approach to religion and social life.

PRE-SERVICE ENGLISH TEACHERS' READINESS TO DEVELOP DIGITALIZED AUTHENTIC MATERIALS WITH ISLAMIC VALUES
  • Feb 28, 2023
  • Premise: Journal of English Education
  • Edwin Nuvianto Al Azis + 1 more

Pre-service English teachers still need to gain the competence to develop authentic materials with Islamic values, reflected by their low perceived readiness. To reveal their readiness, this study was conducted by using narrative inquiry. The data were gathered from the storytelling of pre-service English teachers pursuing master's degrees at IAIN Kediri. Participants in this study were one male and one female student with teaching experience. The data were analyzed by using thematic analysis. The data showed that the pre-service teachers believed the readiness to develop digitalized authentic materials with Islamic values could have been more optimal. It is because of the existing instructional materials provided by the government, their lack of confidence as new teachers, and their limited autonomous access to their classes as a new teacher. English textbooks provided by the government are only general English. So, it makes the teachers follow the materials instead of developing authentic materials with Islamic values that are fundamentally needed by students studying in Islamic institutions, such as modifying the materials from books to reflect Muslim activities. Therefore, the pre-service teachers must expose themselves to integrated materials books and digital materials with Islamic values.

Islamic Education (PAI) plays a strategic role in shaping students’ character and morals, especially amid technological advancement and globalization. However, PAI teachers face complex challenges in teaching Generation Z students who are digital natives, critical thinkers, independent learners, and prefer interactive learning. This study aims to analyze the challenges faced by PAI teachers and the innovative strategies applied in addressing Generation Z students at NU Sunan Ampel Vocational School, Poncokusumo. This qualitative research employed observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques and descriptive analysis as a data analysis technique. The findings reveal key challenges, including students’ low interest in conventional methods, exposure to radical and liberal religious content, limited technology integration, and students’ critical attitudes toward religious discourse. To address these challenges, teachers implemented innovative strategies such as interactive digital media, project-based learning, and integration of Islamic values in counseling. These strategies significantly improved students’ participation, comprehension, and application of religious values in daily life. The study recommends enhancing teachers’ digital competencies and school policy support to realize a more adaptive and relevant PAI learning model for Generation Z.

Student disciplinary violations have become a significant educational challenge, particularly in rapid technological advancement and social change. This study aims to identify adaptive strategies that can be implemented to address student disciplinary violations and to analyse relevant challenges and solutions from the perspective of Islamic Religious Education. This research employs a literature review method, a research approach that aims to produce written work based on the analysis of existing literature. The findings indicate that strategies involving restorative approaches, character strengthening based on Islamic values, and the wise use of technology in discipline management are more effective than conventional, repressive methods. Principles in Islamic education, such as spiritual development (tarbiyah ruhiyah), moral cultivation (akhlaq), and exemplary behaviour (uswah hasanah), play a significant role in shaping students' spiritual and moral awareness. The main challenges include the lack of parental involvement, the influence of social media, and limited school resources. Proposed solutions include enhancing collaboration between schools, parents, and communities and using technology to support the development of students' Islamic character. By implementing appropriate adaptive strategies grounded in Islamic values, student disciplinary violations can be minimised, creating a more conducive and harmonious learning environment.

Islamic character education in elementary schools plays an important role in shaping students' personalities following religious values. Teachers as central figures in the school environment hold a great responsibility to be role models and guide students spiritually and emotionally. However, there are various challenges teachers face in instilling Islamic character education, both from external factors such as the influence of the social environment, and internal factors such as limited support from parents. This study aims to explore the role of teachers in shaping the Islamic personality of students in elementary schools. The research method used is a qualitative approach, with data collection from various relevant sources such as previous research and scientific articles. The collected data is then processed and analyzed to produce in-depth conclusions regarding the role of teachers in Islamic character education. The conclusion of this study shows that teachers play a key role in shaping Islamic personality through role models, habituation of Islamic values, and spiritual and emotional guidance. The main challenges faced include the negative influence of the social environment and lack of family support. Collaboration between teachers and parents is a critical strategy to increase the effectiveness of Islamic character education. In addition, developing an Islamic school environment and increasing teacher competence also need to be improved.
