Abstract

As automotive systems and control features have continued to become more sophisticated and complex, the development requirements for suppliers have become increasingly more severe. This has made it difficult to maintain quality, cost and delivery (QCD) using the conventional style of product development. To deal with this issue, we have implemented a systems engineering method for analyzing on the basis of engineering theory the suitability of the required specifications and the feasibility of attaining them prior to building a physical product. In addition, it has become essential for the engineers involved at every level to be conscious of the required specifications and any contradictions between the various levels and requirements and to be able to carry out design studies with a comprehensive view of the overall product architecture. This paper presents a system architecture analysis method that we have implemented in our automotive transmission development process.
