Abstract

Designing, implementing, and sustaining a successful condition monitoring system is a very challenging task for all organizations especially when there has been a cultural shift required to integrate the ideas of condition monitoring into an already complex maintenance strategy. This paper shares insight into one company's journey, Stork (SBBM), through the implementation of condition based services, with technical assistance from the Institute of Industrial Research (IIR) based at the University of Portsmouth. Beginning with explaining different maintenance strategies, we will discuss about how to implement and manage a condition based maintenance efficiently. Enhanced equipment reliability requires not only the detection of failures but also improved maintenance techniques through appropriate skills training. With enhanced equipment reliability, unscheduled downtime will be reduced, ensuing financial profits.
