Abstract

Implantable loop recorders (ILRs) were introduced into clinical practice more than two decades ago. Monitoring of a heart rhythm using implantable event recorders has found its high position in numerous recommendations of the European Society of Cardiology, especially those regarding syncope and atrial fibrillation. The search for atrial fibrillation in patients after cryptogenic stroke is of great importance for improving the long-term prognosis and optimizing pharmacotherapy. In half of the cases of syncope, long-term ECG monitoring based on ILR allows for a definite diagnosis and effective treatment. It was not until the Regulation of the Minister of Health of 1 December 2023 and the Regulation of the President of the National Health Fund of 29 December 2023 that the procedure could be fully reimbursed in selected groups of patients. The article discusses the requirements for the implementation of the service.
