Abstract

An environmental chamber has been built at Arizona State University (ASU) for purpose of establishing a long-term aging test of all dielectric self supporting (ADSS) fiber optic cable. This paper presents an experimental analysis of the effect of the induced current on the aging of two of the cables in the aging chamber. Both cables have polyethylene outer jackets and are being subjected to UV radiation, salt fog, clean rain and mechanical tension. However, only one cable is energized. Results indicate that current has an impact on the aging of the polyethylene cable
